St. Peter’s School enjoys an excellent relationship with St. Margaret’s Church, the Parish Church of Brotton Parva. In return, St. Margaret’s certainly values its links with the school, as it does also with Badger Hill Primary School, Kiltonthorpe Special School and the wider community. Several worshipping members of the Church are active members of the School’s Governing Body and are involved in various aspects of school life. As Rector at St. Margaret’s, I conduct a weekly worship assembly at St. Peter’s School and always aim to encourage active participation from those present. The pupils take part with great enthusiasm. The themes for worship time broadly follow the seasons and holy days of the Christian year, and include many topics concerning the Christian way of life.
Over the years there have been many confirmation candidates from St. Peter’s. Confirmation classes are held at the school, and at present there are nine candidates preparing for Confirmation by the Bishop of Whitby in February 2007. Highlights of the year must include the several big services in which school members take part. The Advent Sunday Christingle Service is a very popular annual event. The school also holds its annual Carol Service at the Church in December, and St. Peter’s also has its Leavers Service at the end of each academic year. On all these occasions it is good to see the Church really full! In addition to those occasions for worship times at St. Margaret’s the school also takes part in the annual flower festival in September and Education Sunday in February. Members of the Church PCC regularly visit the school to join in worship celebrations with pupils and staff of the school, these occasions include Easter and Harvest Services. Members of the school choir also come to the Church Centre to entertain the senior citizens on occasions during the year. Some of the pupils from St. Peter’s, as members of Uniformed Organisations, take part in a monthly Family Service at St. Margaret’s Church. Long may such good links continue between Church and School!
