Topic - Ancient Greek Columns
As part of our work looking at our topic the Ancient Greeks, the children in Miss Foster’s class were set a challenge of making a greek column, to see if they could make it strong enough to hold a dictionary- then a large stone! The children had to use problem solving skills and work well as a team in order to be successful. We found that paper and art straws can be surprisingly strong!
St John’s Ambulance First Aid Training
During January the Year 5/6 children completed a two hour first aid training session led by Eric Leach. The two hour session covered bleeds and bandages and what to do in an emergency. The children went through some role plays to practise what they would do, and how they would react to finding someone injured. This was a good opportunity for the children to learn new skills, as well as build on the skills they have been previously taught through other St John’s Ambulance training as well as what is covered in the ‘Heart Start’ scheme which we follow. The children had plenty of questions for Eric, and they all seemed to enjoy the practical aspect of the session.
