Art & Design
At St Peter’s, we believe that art is a vital and integral part of our children’s development. It provides them with a range of ways in which they can express their individual creativity whilst learning about the world around them. Art enriches our curriculum and topics taught across all the year groups. Teachers carefully weave in key skills, allowing our children to explore, investigate, make judgements and self-reflect giving them freedom to enjoy art and express themselves.
“Art is not an enclosed garden for the talented few. It is the garden of life for us all”
Implementation
At St Peter’s, we teach a skills-based art curriculum which is carefully linked to our topics. The children develop their skills in their sketch books, researching and exploring different mediums and techniques in the key processes of art: drawing, painting, textiles and sculpture, before completing their final piece. This is supported through the study of key artists. The children are given opportunities to build upon and combine these skills as they move up through school.
