Welcome to Year 5 & 6

Year 5/6 Area

Academic Year 2019-2020

In the Year 5/6 phase team this academic year the children will be taught by the following members of teaching staff: Miss Foster, Mr Ormerod, Mrs Boag, Mrs Unthank and Mr Ahmed and will be supported by Mrs Hogarth, Mrs Holmes, Mrs Westwood and Mrs Tokarski.

Every Tuesday and Friday your child will need to have their PE kits in school, which is a pair of trainers, a pair of shorts and a T-shirt.  During the winter months, they may need to wear tracksuit bottoms if they are doing PE outside.  Please can you ensure your child has the necessary kit on these days and if they require an inhaler that they have it with them.

On Tuesdays your child will receive their Literacy homework and spellings which is due in on Wednesday.  On Wednesday they will receive Numeracy homework which is due in on Thursday.  On a Friday they will receive both Literacy and Numeracy homework which is due in the following Monday.  On a Friday your child will have a spelling test.  It is important that your child completes the homework set as it supports the work that they do in class. Please contact any of the teaching staff if there are any problems with the homework that has been set.  To ensure that your child makes good progress it is important that they read regularly at home.  To encourage the children to do this if an adult signs their reading record book on 10 occasions they will move along the reading display it the hall.

Curriculum Topics

Over the Autumn Term we will be looking at the Earth and Space and Electricity for our science topics, as well as looking at Mountains in geography alongside topic linked work in our Literacy lessons.  If you have opportunity, please encourage your child to research these topics so they can share their findings with the rest of the class.

House Points

To reward good behaviour, effort with work and general attitude we have got a ‘token’ system.  When a child or group of children receive a house point, they will get a token which is to be places in the library in a glass tube.  ON a Friday afternoon they will be counted up, and the week’s winners announces in worship on a Monday morning.
