MFL
At St. Peter’s, we believe that learning another language is a crucial part of the children’s education. It allows children to build self-confidence as well as developing their communication skills. Whilst our focus language is French, the children are encouraged to see themselves as global citizens and develop curiosity about other languages and cultures. Our vision is to produce secondary-ready linguists. All children develop confidence in the four areas of language learning: Speaking, Listening, Reading and Writing. We also introduce French grammar in an age-appropriate way.
Implementation
All classes in Key Stage 2 will have access to a high-quality foreign languages curriculum using the Language Angels scheme of work and resources. This will develop and broaden pupil skills in foreign languages through regularly taught and well-planned weekly lessons in French.
Children will progressively acquire, use and apply a growing bank of vocabulary, language skills and grammatical knowledge organised around age-appropriate topics and themes – building blocks of learning into more complex, fluent and authentic language.
Please see our Curriculum Intent page for Subject Overviews.
