PSHE & RSE
PSHE at St Peter’s is designed to give our children the opportunity to develop the knowledge and attributes to support their own, and others’ wellbeing. We aim to support our children to become successful and happy adults who make a meaningful contribution to society, and flourish into responsible, valued members of the community.
At St Peter’s, we use the Jigsaw PHSE approach. This is a mindful way of teaching, bringing together Personal, Social, Health Education, emotional literacy, social skills and spiritual development in a comprehensive scheme of learning. Weekly lessons will be tailored to the children’s needs and preferred learning styles.
Jigsaw is designed as a whole school approach, with all year groups working on the same theme (Puzzle) at the same time. This enables each Puzzle to start with an introductory assembly, generating a whole school focus for adults and children alike.
The children’s learning activities are recorded in journals and floor books, giving the children an opportunity to reflect on their thoughts and develop ideas further.
As a result of using the Jigsaw approach, we endeavour to give the children of St. Peter’s the tools to be able:
- To embrace the challenges of creating a happy and successful adult life and be given the knowledge that will enable them to make informed decisions about their wellbeing, health and relationships and to build their self-efficacy.
- To use this knowledge into practice as they develop the capacity to make sound decisions when facing risks, challenges and complex contexts.
- To develop resilience, to know how and when to ask for help, and to know where to access support.
